Could there be a potential defense for the Corona Virus as close as your bed?

Can sex help defend against the Corona virus? Some science points to yes!

You may feel hopeless, but you have some additional wonderful lines of defenses that may boost your immune system, and one of them may surprise and even excite you. SEX, we are talking good old fashioned rolling in the hay with your significant other.  Now, don’t start swiping or rush out to your nearest bar looking for a willing participant, the last thing you want to do during a pandemic is go to a meat market (no pun intended, Wuhan) and look for a new partner, that could get you infected with Corona or a worse, and more likely disease. Worry not, if you do not have a significant other, there are still some options for you, I will get in to that later.

Pandemic. They said it. It’s here, it’s not going anywhere for a long time. So what on earth are we going to do? Is it the end of the world as we know it? Some are maxing out credit cards, confessing their love to their long time crushes, texting their exes and cashing in on cheap travel with the ideology “If I’m going to die, it might as well be on a beach somewhere being served drinks by a sexy cabana boy”. (Ok, I am one of those people having that particular thought). Let’s get serious here for a minute, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) was first reported from Wuhan, China, on December 31, 2019 and on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, the virus was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. The declaration came as the number of known novel coronavirus cases surpassed 120,000 worldwide

Panic and paranoia has spread faster than the pandemic itself, resulting in plummeting stocks, shortages of items such as hand sanitizer, face masks and even toilet paper around nearly every corner of the globe. Anxiety, depression and fear is crippling many otherwise well rounded people. Stress itself, is a proven killer and has been shown to drastically effect the strength of your immune system. How could we not stress though? There is no antidote, no vaccine and very little is still known about the true fatality rate and even the actual number of cases due to many cases being mild and mistaken as a common cold.

The CDC states the best defenses against the virus are staying at least 6 ft away from other humans, and thorough hand washing. After founding Privy Peach, I am always looking for natural ways to improve not only sexual health and wellness, but happy and reduced stress lifestyles. This led me to conduct some research on preparing our bodies and minds for this pandemic.

Let’s talk about sex. According to a study by Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, having sex once or twice a week lead to 30 percent higher levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA) than those abstaining from sex. IgA is the first line of defense against colds and flu. It binds to bacteria that invade the body, and then activates the immune system to destroy them. IgA is one of the most common antibodies in the body. Antibodies are proteins made by the immune system to fight bacteria, viruses, and toxins. A study in the Journal of Virology published in July 1997 specifically mentions the Coronavirus and the IgA Virus-Neutralizing Antibodies. IgA has showed promising virus neutralization effects, as well as providing a heightened resistance to infection. This is especially true for viruses, since resistance to infection has been strongly correlated with the presence of specific IgA antibodies in mucosal secretions. Will sex really help decrease your chances of contracting the Corona Virus? We may never fully know, but the studies are certainly an interesting read, and something many will happily try with the right partner.

Now let’s talk about the orgasm. Great news for all of the solo players in this crazy thing, last time I checked you do not need a partner to achieve this goal. If you do need help reaching climax, I have a special CBD intensifier that works wonders, even if you are a lone rider. Your body releases dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and endorphins during an orgasm. The combination of these hormones can act as a very healthy sedation contributing to better sleep and can re-balance our levels of cortisol (a stress-inducing hormone). This entourage effect helps our immune system function at a higher level. Correspondingly, a study shows oxytocin can inhibit inflammation, exert antibiotic-like effect, promote wound healing and regeneration, and suppress stress-associated immune disorders.

Let’s talk about stress. When we are stressed, the immune system’s ability to fight of antigens is greatly reduced, making us more susceptible to infections. Travel, relationship issues, problems at work can all contribute to a weakened immune system. So is that guy or girl stressing you out? Kick them to the curb, the stress they cause will outweigh the benefits of the increased IgA levels from sex.  Now is the time to be living your best life (who knows how much time we all have left…) Uh oh, hopefully I didn’t stress you out. Ok deep breath…take some CBD for relaxation, have some self love time…wash your hands.

Over the next days, weeks and months, focus on the thing you can control: getting plenty of vitamin D (not that kind, sickos…) focus on taking care of your body by eating right, exercising, washing your hands, having plenty of safe sex and/or making sure you get your dose of dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and endorphins by giving your body what it needs.
